Couples Counsellor North Carlton

About Mary

Since training as a counsellor, I have worked with couples, individuals, families and children in a range of settings. For the past decade, I have worked in private practice, specialising in couples counslling.

I also work with individuals

My maturity and wide range of experiences enable me to bring empathy, openness and understanding to my counselling practice. This helps couples to quickly feel at ease in the counselling setting. I provide a respectful, confidential and non-judgemental environment in which clients can explore the issues that concern them.

Counselling for Couples

Couples come to counselling at various stages in their relationship: some are in crisis; others are distressed by the conflict and disconnection they are experiencing; some want to nip incipient problems in the bud. Others simply want a ‘check-in’ or ‘tune-up’.

I provide a safe environment where both partners can be heard with respect and can express themselves without fear of judgement.

By exploring underlying sensitivities, couples are helped to understand themselves and each other more deeply, to see and hear each other in new ways, while gaining a deeper insight into the dynamics of their relationship.

I help couples to become more empowered by teaching skills and strategies to manage differences and to communicate more effectively, helping them to live together more harmoniously and enjoy a deeper connection.

Counselling for individuals

I see individuals who are experiencing challenges, such as relationship and life stresses, transitions (e.g. the arrival of children, retirement), illness and ageing, grief and loss.

I create a positive environment for individuals to explore their concerns, offering both short-term and long-term counselling sessions.

Counselling allows people to be deeply heard and their concerns validated, in the first instance. The process enables them to gain new understandings and deeper insights and, in the process, expand their repertoire of responses.
